Therapy for pregnancy and new parenthood, in Spanish or English

Cradle is a Hartford practice of three clinicians for people who are pregnant, new to parenting or grieving a loss, and for their partners. In person on Park Street or by video.

Services

Three ways to be supported

Each is in Spanish, English or both. Babies in arms are welcome at all of them.

Individual, group and partner sessions

  • Therapy in pregnancy and after birth

Fifty minutes with Aurora or Johana, in person or by video, about the pregnancy, the birth, the baby and everything around them.

    Spanish or English
  • The parent circle

A weekly group of parents, led by Johana. We move between Spanish and English, and babies in arms come along.

    Group
  • Sessions for partners and family

Rodney sees partners, fathers and family members, on their own or with the person who gave birth.

    Partners

Is it for you?

People come to Cradle when

  • The pregnancy is full of worry

You want a place to say the things you cannot say at the baby shower.

  • The baby is here and you do not feel like yourself

Sleep, tears, a quiet that is too quiet. You want someone who has sat with many parents.

  • You are grieving a loss

A pregnancy that ended, or a baby who did not come home. You do not have to explain.

  • You are the partner

You are tired too, and not sure how to help. There are sessions for you.

    For partners and family

Your clinician sets the pace with you, and changes it when your days change.

The space

Light, soft chairs and room for a stroller

The office is on the ground floor of a building on Park Street. A step-free entrance, a quiet room and a corner for feeding or changing a baby.

How fees work

The answers to what nearly everyone asks before a first session.

  • Insurance we work with

Cradle is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. We do not bill Medicaid or Medicare. If you want a clinician who bills your plan, we will gladly give you the names of colleagues.

    • Out of network with insurance plans

    • No Medicaid or Medicare

  • If you pay yourself

You pay by card at the end of each session, HSA and FSA cards included. There is no contract and nothing is paid in advance. The fee depends on the kind of session and how long it runs: 50 minutes for individual, partner and family sessions, and 90 minutes for the parent circle. We give it to you in writing before you start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract: you can change your mind at any time. Ask us for one when you write to us.

  • Checking your benefits

Before your first session we send you a short list of what to ask your plan: whether it covers out-of-network outpatient mental health care, what your deductible is, and how it wants the receipt. The call to your plan is yours to make; we cannot check your benefits for you.

By video

By video, anywhere in Connecticut

Our clinicians are licensed in Connecticut, so for video sessions you need to be in Connecticut during the session.

  • Hartford
  • West Hartford
  • East Hartford
  • Wethersfield
  • Bloomfield
  • Windsor
  • New Britain
  • Manchester

If you are outside Connecticut during the session, we cannot see you yet. We will help you find someone licensed where you live.

Questions we are asked

Do you take my insurance?

Cradle is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself, and we give you a receipt you can send to your plan. We do not bill Medicaid or Medicare. If you want a clinician who bills your plan, we will give you the names of colleagues.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract: you can change your mind at any time. Ask us for one when you write to us.

What happens in the first session?

You and your clinician talk about what brings the two of you into the room: how you are sleeping, how the pregnancy or the baby is going, who helps you at home. You decide at the end whether you want to continue. You do not need to bring anything.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. If you are pregnant or have a new baby, you can also call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262, in English or Spanish. In an emergency, call 911. We do not monitor messages around the clock, so do not wait for us to answer.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you tell us stays between you and your clinician, and we keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. The exceptions are plain: if someone is in danger, if a child may be harmed, or if a court orders it. We explain this in the first session.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes. Babies in arms are welcome in the office, in individual sessions and in the parent circle. By video, you can hold your baby or feed them while we talk.
